Junior Program
The NLGYC Junior Program seeks to provide a safe, constructive, and enjoyable family oriented environment for the youth of our club. Our objectives are to develop life-long skills in sailing, swimming and tennis; to foster sportsmanship, and racing skills; to continue the heritage of the NLGYC community; to nurture an appreciation and respect for the lake; and to encourage lifelong friendships.
The Junior Program offers optional participation in the Junior & Senior Sail Teams and the Tennis Team.
Outside of the Junior Program class day, Junior Social Events provide safe, entertaining activities for all children and grandchildren of NLGYC members, their parents, and families.
Please send any questions to Libby Lawrence Fredman.
Information
- Class size for each group is limited to 15 children. Class hours are 9:00am-1:30pm.
- Each child should bring: a swimsuit and towel; tennis racquet and sneakers (non-marking); sunscreen; lunch with a drink; extra clothing for cool or rainy days; rain gear (we sail in the rain!); Coast Guard approved life jacket; a second pair of shoes that can get wet; and a bag to transport belongings. Please label all items. Please check lost and found for missing items.
- Rainy Day Policy: If it rains more than one day, the Junior Program Director has the option to call a "shortened day" as long as all parents were notified by 9am.
- The Junior Program has a safety program registered with the NY Department of Health. Anyone wishing to read it should contact the Junior Program Director.
Group Assignment
Group Assignment is a delicate balance between social maturity and sporting skill levels. Ultimately, we try to place a child where he/she will have the most fun and will learn the most. It is usually better to place a child in a lower group where he/she can excel than in a higher group where he/she may feel overly challenged. After a few classes, the staff may recommend moving a child based on their assessment of skill and maturity level.
- Polliwog: 3 1/2 year to entering Kindergarten
- Group 1: entering 1st to 3rd grade
- Group 2: entering 4th and 5th
- Group 3: entering 6th and 7th
- Group 4: entering 8th and above
- Tadpoles include children younger than 3.5 years, which meet once a week as a "mom and me group" for lunch, games, songs, and a swim, run by the moms.
Medical Forms:
By now, it seems that most everyone is aware of the requirements for the medical immunizations. Please continue to have the immunization records for each child available at registration. For those who may not be aware, Medical forms must be filled out completely and handed in at registration. You must have a separate medical form for each child. The form is included with your Club DUES mailing or online; please make photocopies as needed. Please note that the state of NY requires documentation of all dates of all immunizations administered. You may obtain this information from your child's doctor.
Also, note that the medical form asks for insurance information as well as doctor and dentist phone numbers. These numbers are important in case there is a medical emergency and the attending MD may need to get information on child's past history in order to provide accurate treatment and diagnoses.
Please send any questions to Libby Lawrence Fredman.
