Junior Program Social Events
Junior Social Events
Junior Social events are organized and supervised by volunteer parents in order to provide safe, entertaining activity for young people (approximately 3 to 12 years) outside of the Junior Program class day. The events foster a strong sense of community and love for the lake. All children and grandchildren of NLGYC members, their parents, and families are welcome to join in the fun!
Some examples of Junior Social activities are:
This is one of those timeless summer evenings where the sun never seems to go down and the marshmallows never seem to run out.
All you can eat pancakes breakfast for the whole family. We gather at the club house porch and watch the sailors rig and launch for the morning races.
A family friendly movie will be shown on the big screen along with plenty of popcorn. The title will be announced the week before the event, but all suggestions are welcome.
Competitors Wanted: Capture the Flag? Soccer? Frisbee Golf? Croquet? Whiffle Ball? Egg and Spoon Races? Four Square? You make the call at Sports night. Cool drinks and high adrenaline will fuel the evening. No need to be sporty to attend. Volunteer parents will have a selection of games that can fit all age and ability levels.
“Swing your partner ’round and ’round and turn your corner upside down!” Dance and do-si-do to live, old-time music with a traditional square dance caller. All ages are welcome to wander over.
All families with kids in the Junior Program age group are invited to pack a picnic, BYOM (Bring your Own Meat) to put on the grill, and enjoy some family bonding. Don’t forget your plates, cups, and utensils!
Mark your free space, and get ready to yell “Bingo!” Look out for all your favorite staff members and a special bake sale table too.
On the first calm day of the week swim the width of the lake with a full cheering squad and escorts. Check it off your bucket list… until next year!
We’ll provide the sail loft stage, the microphone, and the motivation. You provide the talent! Anything goes: from skits to songs, jokes to gymnastics, lip–sync to loon calls. Kids of all ages collaborate to put on a show for a forgiving audience.
Obstacle courses, pudding-eating contests, and sailing and swimming silliness are highlights at Gymkhana, the culminating festival day of the summer. Bittersweet goodbyes are said at the family picnic that follows.
The Junior Social events are included on the NLGYC Calendar.
Parent Sign-Ups for Junior Events
The Junior Social Program events are made possible through all of the generous volunteer efforts of parents and dedicated NLGYC families. The Junior Social events are not part of the junior instructional program during the day. Therefore, parent participation, involvement, and responsible supervision are crucial.
Please sign up for at least one volunteer job this summer. The earlier you sign up, the better. Indicate what you can bring or do to help out. For example:
- Event Leader
If a conflict arises, it is your job to find a substitute.
