Head Swimming Instructor
The Head Swimming Instructor supervises all swimming activities and any instructors and/or life guards with waterfront duties to ensure that all swimming activities are first and foremost safe and conducted with the highest level of concern for the welfare, safety, and instruction of day camp participants.  The Head Swimming Instructor will collaborate with the Program Director to conduct meetings with staff to accomplish these goals.  The Head Swimming Instructor preferably will be at least 21 years of age and have at least three seasons of waterfront experience.  He/she will hold either a current CPR certificate for the Professional Rescuer issued by the ARC or its equivalent and either a WSI or Life Guard certification.

Specifically, the Head Swimming Instructor:

·        Assesses the swimming level of each JP participant prior to participation in aquatic activities,

·        Coordinates daily and weekly swimming instruction,

·        Develops daily lesson plans to meet the specific needs of the program participants,

·        Supervises Assistant Instructor and interns (if applicable),

·        Sets up and enforces the buddy system,

·        Keeps count of children under supervision with a written roster, and

·        Enforces safety rules on the waterfront.

Waterfront Director and Head Swimming Instructor will review the waterfront on a daily basis to be sure all components are in place.  Notification of problems or potential problems are reported immediately to the Program Director who then contacts the appropriate maintenance staff person to correct the situation.  If, by the assessment of either the Waterfront Director or Head Swimming Instructor, the problem impacts the safety of those swimming, swimming will not be allowed until the problem is corrected.

Swimming Instructor
The Swimming Instructor will hold either a current CPR certificate for the Professional Rescuer issued by the ARC or its equivalent and either a WSI or Life Guard certification.  The qualified life guard will be 17 years of age. 

Specifically, the Swimming Instructor:

·        Assists the Head Swimming Instructor,

·        Participates in lesson planning for swimming instruction,

·        Accompanies group participants to the dock,

·        Assists the 4 and 5 year old group counselor with swimming instruction when needed,

·        Supervises children during lunch and ensures clean-up before dismissal,

·        Assists in other areas of the Junior Program as needed, and

  • Enforces safety rules on the docks and in boats.
